Being one of the best winter treks of the country, the trek to Kedarkantha is an amazing summit trek
located in Govind Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. It’s elevation is 3812
metres above sea level, and it is a very popular winter trek giving a slight glimpse of hiking a
Himalayan peak with zero prior trekking experience due to its accessibility and easy level. You can
see the snow here till the month of April, which makes it so popular unlike other winter treks. The
trek starts from the base village Sankri, passing through dense forests of Rhondendron and Oak, a
frozen lake or Talab midway and finally a summit trek in a chilly and snowy way. Different
Himayan peaks like Bandarpoonch, Kalanag, Swargarohini, etc are visible from the summit of
Kedarkantha . by the locals, it is believed that when Lord Shiva was wandering here at Kedarkantha
in his bull avatar hiding from the Pandawas, the local dwellers distributed his peace and the locals
believe that the trident of Lord Shiva erected at the Kedarkantha Peak protects them and keeps the
Himalayan rivers full. The trek to Kedarkantha is of of easy to moderate level. One has to cover
12kms on the trek with some steep stretches on the summit day, but it is also accessible to first time
trekker.
